Owl Post

My applogies to Minevra Kwikspell. Minee sent me the most wonderful package via owl post and it arrived last Wednesday, and I haven't had a chance to photograph it until yesterday, and only now am I getting my photos up. She sent me a box full of fantastic treats and yummy goodies. This photo shows all the wonderful things I pulled out of that awesome felted bag. I love it.. from the gold/black choice of yarn to the grommets that are the sides and the tassels at the end of the handle cord. My housemates are insanely jealous.

This photo shows the bag and the two hanks of yarn from Perfect Peds. The one on the right is called HUZZAH and it is yellow with brown/purple stripes. I love that it's warmer than black/yellow which is a bit harsh for socks. The other color on the left is called Ginny Weasley, and it's just fantastic. All my favorite colors of fall and I can't wait to knit them both up into socks. WOOT! One is a blend and they are both just delightful. Minee definatly spoiled me rotten.

Next up we have goodies. I got a pattern for Zombie socks, which has one of my housemates, who is a large zombie fan, just drooling with envy and making me dread how large his feet are. I also recieved 2 sets of size 2 needles, a foldable ruler, a stitch holder and a yarn pendant. On top of all this ... there's more!

So when I first opened my package and huridly looked at my goodies before having to rush out the door.. I thought it was 2 sets of stitch markers. One a bigger size than the other. When I took it all out to enjoy yesterday and lay out for the photo shoot, I discovered the most lovely surprise! One package actually contained a lovely Hufflepuff bracelet. How wonderful! Minee I don't know if you made these, but thank you so much.

Lastly, are all the yummy Harry Potter themed goodies that were in my box. On top of some lovely HP candies, I recieved some treats from Kwikspell Konfections, a candy and confections shope Minee runs out of Ravenclaw Tower. What a great surprise, and I am just tickled to death with my whole package. Minee was in a car accident this term, and I am just touched at the ammount of time and thought she put into putting my package together in spite of surgery and what I can assume is a painful recovery. Thank you so much Minee, you were a wonderful swap partner.

Term Project

Willow has already flown off with my secret project package and long since returned, so I thought I'd share my photos I took before she headed out. My spoilee this term was Morgana Black of Gryffindor House. I had so much fun collecting things for her package. I haven't participated in a swap before during my "muggle school year" and it was quite a learning experience for me. All the free time I had over summer break was missing and so I felt a bit out of sorts and rushed and like I didn't blog much (which comparitively, I didn't) and all sorts of other things. Sending Willow off that day was such a weight lifted.

Anyhow, due to all the above mentioned, I went with a Crocheted bag instead of a knitted one. I searched the Ravelry patterns until I came up with something I thought would be special enough for Morgana, and decided on the Yarn Bag, which was a free Ravelry download. I doubled stranded some Vanna's Choice yarn instead of using the bulky yarn called for in the pattern and was quite happy with the results.

Morgana loves Halloween, and Candy Corn is her favorite candy. I'm not a big fan of Halloween at all, but I had fun searching through all the seasonal stuff for special touches to her kit. About midway through the term Lion Brand sent out an email with seasonal patterns, and I gathered the yarn to crochet candy corn for her package. I couldn't resist and made 6 more and put them in a bowl in my dining room. I included a bag for her in the bottom of her package and I hope she didn't get a belly ache eating it all. Crazy4dying has the most lovely shades of Hogwarts sock yarns and I puchased a skein for her, and inluded a skein of each of the yarns I made her bag with in case she wants some matching accessories. I also included some needles, stitch markers, a bunch of patterns, Badger hand balm (I had too.. being a Hufflepuff and all), and a bunch of novelty candies and halloween items. I had to laugh, because when you send a flat rate shipping box they tell you right on the box your box can't be altered and has to be able to close. Well, I pushed the laws of physics getting that box to close so I could tape it up safe and sound. I hope she enjoys it all. Morgana posted this photo of all the goodies over on her blog.

Monday.. Monday

Dear family,

I must apologize for my lack of correspondence this term. I have been up to my ears in learning and studies and meetings and all sorts of scholarly things that have me burning the candle at both ends. I finished my extracurricular knitting project and sent Willow off with my package this morning. She's on her way to sunny Florida and I hope she makes it there safely.

I recieved the most lovely card today via Owl Post from Stuart Cauldwell in Ravenclaw Tower. It had a lovely Hufflepuff badge and a packet of hot chocolate. If today was any kind of indication about the rest of the week, I'll be putting it to good use soon.

Dad I started knitting a new sweater today. I know, I have lots of unfinished things lying about.. but I really want to be able to wear it this winter and I'm very excited about it. It's a color called "chocolate" in Malabrigo worsted yarn and it's just delightful. I hope to have it done by Thanksgiving.

I must go, I am quite exhuasted and need to get a bit of work done for Astronomy.

All my love,

Em

Quiz pt. 2

Professor Snape was having a terrible morning, and it wasn't even breakfast yet. Someone broke into the Herbology classroom the night before, hid a Boggart in the closet, and set loose 83 doxies. How did he know there were 83 doxies? Because each one took a bite out of his leg as he tried to capture it, and Madame Pomfrey had to run each wound separately. And comment annoyingly about how Professor Trelawny would've had the room cleared out with 2 waves of a wand.

It took forever to get out of the infirmary, and by then Professor Snape was in a foul mood. Luckily, he knew how to improve it: by finding the culprits and making him, her or them pay. Snape had overheard some students giggling in the hallways the other day about Emerald's stash of doxy eggs, so he had a good idea of who to interrogate first. Unfortunately for him, but rather fortunately for Emerald, the common room password had recently been changed to Holyhead Harpies, so Snape couldn't enter. The Fat Lady looked up from her portrait and laughed at the cursing, frustrated Professor.

The old Professor Snape would have thrown a hissy fit at being taunted by a mere portrait, and blasted the thing all the way into the 5th floor girl's bathroom. The new Professor Snape went to 15 weeks of Anger Management classes, punched a lot of pillows, and took up knitting. And started subscribing to the Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes catalogue.

Professor Snape's first class off the day was Herbology with the 3rd year Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaw. It took them 2 hours to clean up after the entire carton of Wildfire Wizbangs that went off and clung to their robes, schoolbooks, and any exposed flesh. The students all knew that Emerald was planning to do something in Herbology to get Professor Snape, so everyone blamed her for the prank and gave her the cold shoulder for 17 days, until Jade Bladvak blew up the Astronomy classroom with a misplaced charm and became the new pariah-of-the-hour.
